Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC)

The Public Service Commission of Punjab carries long history with it. The commission was established on May 1, 1937 in Punjab Province of undivided India. After the partition the Punjab Public Service Commission was shifted to Shimla in February 1948 and its jurisdiction was extending over to east Punjab. Later the state of Punjab and Pepsu was amalgamated and commission was brought to Patiala on November 1, 1956. After states of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh formed its’ jurisdiction lessened. The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) is the administering authority for administrative services examinations for various services and posts available with Punjab Government.

Functions of Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC)


Punjab Public Service Commission performs the following functions under Article 320 of the constitution.

1. Recruitment relating to the posts of

1. PCS (EB) & Allied Services, PCS (J), DSP's, DS (Jail), Distt. Probation Officers, BDPO's, Treasury Officers, Forest Officers Examination
2. All class I and class II posts i.e. Doctors, Engineers, College Lecturers and Principals etc.

2. Advises State Government in matters relating to

A. departmental promotions in class-I and class-II,
B. departmental service rules made under Article 309 of the Constitution of India and
C. Punitive actions proposed by the government against all Class I and Class II officers of the State who have been either selected through Commission or appointed by the Govt.
D. promotions of JE's as SDO's & conducting the meetings of the Screening Committee.

Examinations

   1. Provincial Civil Services (EB) & Allied Services,
   2. Provincial Civil Services (Judiciary),
   3. Deputy Superintendent of Police
   4. Deputy Superintendents (Jail),
   5. Distt. Probation Officers,
   6. Block Development Probationary Officers
   7. Treasury Officers,
   8. Forest Officers Examination

Class I and class II posts

   1. Doctors
   2. Engineers,
   3. College Lecturers
   4. Principals etc.

Age -
  • Candidate should not be below 21 years and above 35 years of age.
  • The maximum age limit for SC/ST candidates of all states and Backward Classes of Punjab shall be 40yrs, and that for physically challenged would be 45 years.
  • An ex-serviceman of Punjab Domicile shall be allowed to deduct the period of his service in the Armed forces of the Union from his actual age and if the resultant age does not exceed the maximum age limit prescribed for direct appointment to such a vacancy in the Service Rules concerned by more than three years, he shall be deemed to satisfy the condition regarding the age limit.
  • The upper age limit for widows, divorcees and other categories of women (as given in the Information Sheet).is also relax able up to 40 years.
