Section A
  1. Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension : Principles of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Concept, Aims & Objectives and Organisational set up of community development, Role of animals in economy health, Resource Management, Accounting, Product Management, Labour Management and Marketing, Co-operative Societies, Key village scheme, ICDP, Gosadan, Panchayati Raj, Integrated Rural Programme.


  2. Animal Nutrition : Classification of feeds, feeding standards, computation of rations, Concepts of total digestible nutrients and starch equivalent systems. Significance of energy determinations, Conservation of feeds and fodder and utilization of agro by-products. Feed supplements and additives, Nutrition deficiencies and their management, Importance of colostrums.


  3. Animal Management : Management, Systems of housing and management of livestock, poultry and rabbits. Farm records. Economics of livestock and poultry. Clean milk production. Biogas production.


  4. Livestock Product Technology

      Milk and Milk Product Technology - Dairy industries in Punjab and India, pasteurization homogenization and dehydrate of milk, milk plant.

      Abbatoir Practices and animal Byproducts - Layout of modern abattoir, anti-mortem and post-mortem examination, chilling and evaluation of carcasses. Utilisation of slaughter house byproducts, quality control meausres for meat and meat products.

  1. Anatomy and Physiology : Gross anatomy of musculo-skeletal, cardiovascular, nervous, respiratory, gastrointestinal, endocrine and urogenital system of domestic animals and poultry. Histological technics, Histology and Embryology of vital organ/system of animals and birds, foetal membrane and placentation.

    Physiology of muscle contraction, blood and its function,cardiac cycle, shock. Ruminal microbes, liver, kidney, brain and their function. Hormones, estrous cycle, hormonal control of mammary growth and lactation, Gametogensis.


  2. Veterinary Biochemistry : Biochemistry of cellular and sub-cellular components, diffusion, osmotic pressure, pH buffer systems and membrane equilibrium. Biosynthesis of proteins and nucleic acids, Enzyme definition and classification, co-factors and co-enzymes, Biological oxidation, Mitochondrial electron transport chain. Metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids and nucleic acids in animals.


  3. Veterinary Pathology : Etiology of diseases and concept, extrinsic and intrinsic factors. Disturbances of circulation, cell metabolism, pigment metabolism icterus, growth disturbances including neoplasia. Calcification, necrosis, gangrene, death. Inflammation and healing Pathogensis, post-mortem lesions & diagnosis of diseases of livestock and poultry.

Animal Genetics & Breeding : Biostatics and computer application for handling Animal Husbandry and Veterinary data., Transgenic animals, Basis for classification of breeds, economic character of livestock and poultry, Heritability, repeafibility, Genetic and, phenotypic correlation. Principle and method of selection, Sire index, Embryo-transfer technology, In breeding and out breeding and its application for livestock improvement, Pedigree sheet, Livestock breeding programmes in the state and the country.


  2. Surgery and Radiology : Definition, selection and administration of anaesthesia, General surgical principle, pre-operative and post-operative consideration. Veterinary Radiology, Fluoroscopy, Principle of viewing and interpreting X-Ray Films, Ultrasonography, Radiation Therapy. Definition, classification, diagnosis and treatment of lameness. Common surgical affections of animals, their diagnosis and treatment.


  3. Animal Reproduction, Gynaecology & Obstetrics : Ovulation and superovulation, gestation, pregnancy diagnosis, fertility, infertility and sterility, parturition, Retention after birth, dystokia and its treatment. Foetotomy and cesarean section. Post-partum diseases and their treatment. Advantages and limitations of artificial insemination, Evaluation, dilution, storage and shipment of semen.

  1. Veterinary Medicine and Microbiology

    1. Major contagious diseases affecting animals poultry and pet animals. Etiology, symptoms, pathogenicity, diagnosis, treatment and control of major bacterial, viral, rickettsial and parsitic infections, Description, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of production diseases of milch animals, pigs and poultry, Deficiency diseases of domestic livestock, birds and poisonings due to contaminated foods and feeds, chemicals and drugs. Legal duties of Veterinarian, Forensic and State Medicine Law, Prevention of Curelty of Animals Act (1960), law relating to poison and adulteration of drugs, livestock importation Act, code of conduct and ethics for veterinarians.
    2. Morphology, isolation, growth, colonial, biochemical and antigenic character of
      • Bacteria
      • Rickettsia and chlamydia,
      • Mycoplasm and Acholeplasmas
      • viruses. Immunisation of animals and birds.


  2. Pharmacology and Toxicology : Toxicity caused by metals, plants and drugs, Mycotoxin and bacterial toxin, General principles of anti-bacterial antifungal, antiviral and anti-cancer agents, Histamine, Scrotonin and Prostaglandin, Pharmacokinetics, tranquiliser, analgesic, antipyretics, diuretics and anticoagulants.


  3. Veterinary Parasitology : Important parasitic diseases of protozoal, helminthic and arthropod origin of veterinary importance with reference to epidemiology, symptoms, pathogenesis, diagnosis, immunity, immunoprophylaxis, chemotherapy and control.
