Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC)

Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) established under article 315 of the constitution, recruits candidates to the various civil service posts in the state. The history of the commission dates back to year 1937 when it was set up as a Joint Public Service Commission at Lahore on May 1, 1937, with its jurisdiction area ranging from the Khyber Pass to the Jamuna near Delhi. The commission acquired its present name in the year 1948 along with the extended jurisdiction (given the then east province). On November 1, 1956, commission shifted its base to Patiala following the merger of States of Punjab and Pepsu. In 1966, the territorial jurisdiction of the commission got decreased due to the formation of the States of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
